Most of us visit casinos for the fun of it. We expect to win a bit and lose a bit but experience real entertainment and leave the establishment with a few dollars more or a few dollars less than what we entered it with.

The majority of people who enjoy gambling as a harmless pastime activity understand the basic principal that the 'house always wins'. As players we know the odds are stacked against us and we except that as a challenge and as the price we have to pay for having a fun time.

This is why it is with great surprise that the news of a big loss that the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City has suffered $1.8 million loss at the blackjack tables in April of this year.

Such a loss flies in the face of average casino takings from blackjack tables that normally stand at ten to fifteen percent of the chips value a player buys and forms a valuable part of the casino revenue source.

The casino suffered the overall loss during a month when a single player managed to win $6 million at the blackjack tables so overall their total loss at the tables was diminished by losses from other players.

The news of the loss traveled quickly through the resort town and Daniel Heneghan, a spokesman for the state Casino Control Commission said "It’s extraordinarily unusual for a casino to lose money at the game of blackjack in a particular month."

Heneghan further stated the loss experienced by the Tropicana is proportionally unprecedented in the state going back to the commencement of casino gambling in 1978.
