Facebook Plans to Offer Real Money Gambling

Reports have surfaced that the social networking giant Facebook is in talks with a few online gambling operators as part of its efforts to introduce real money gambling via its social platform. It is rumored that Facebook is in talks of a possible joint venture with 888 which refused to refute or confirm the rumors.

Facebook has been offering gambling games on its platform for several years now, however all the gambling was done using Facebook credits. Now it is considering offering real money gambling for Facebook users located in the UK.

888 has a very strong presence in the UK’s online gambling market with a variety of gambling products that include an online poker room, casino, bingo room, scratch cards and skill games platform. Therefore it will not be surprising if Facebook is considering collaborating with 888.

From the moment Facebook plans have made the news, calls to stop them from being able to offer real money gambling due to fears of underage Facebook users finding a way of gambling and all the risks that are associated with such activity.

In the UK alone Facebook has over 3 million underage users between the ages of 13 and 17. In addition it is estimated that around a million users that are under the age of 13 but pretending to be older. It is feared that these users will be introduced to real money gambling and find a way of circumventing the UK’s minimum age restriction for gambling that currently stands on 18 years old.
