Online Gambling in Australia is on the Rise

Since the start of online gambling many countries have seen a rise in their citizens partaking in the activity which was once only available at a land-based casino. But now that all of the entertainment and excitement of gambling and sports betting is right at our fingertips twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week, even more people are engaging in online gambling.

This is particularly the case for Australia. Recent reports give us an insight into the reasons behind the rise in online gambling in the “Land Down Under”. Reports estimate that the average Australian gambler will spend approximately $1,265 a year on sports betting, online casino games and poker.

It is estimated that the sports betting sector alone will total some $22.5 billion in 2012. As for the overall gambling industry, 2012 looks like it will see a 3.3% profit leap. However, as the online gambling community grows on a daily basis, profits could reach even higher.

Australia has a rich history of enjoying sports betting but it is not sports betting that is pushing the online gambling industry forward. It is in fact the favorite casino game of poker. A study cited in reports has shown that poker is accountable for 60% of the online gambling revenue and customers are flocking to this game.

One reason for the increase in online gambling is due to the relaxed rules about marketing gambling sites and games. Marketing and advertising companies have targeted sports fans and sporting events in order to promote online gambling as these two often go hand-in-hand. It would now be hard to find a sporting event that was not sponsored or did not have some advertisements for online gambling sites.
