New Jersey Sports Betting Ban

Matters relating to online gambling in the US state of New Jersey refuse to calm down.

Soon after the recent talk suggesting that Governor Chris Christie will approve the New Jersey eGaming Bill , followed by the governor sudden u-turn on the matter by imposing an absolute veto on the bill just last week, comes the next chapter in the fight to allow online gambling in New Jersey.

Senator Lesniak together with State Senate President Stephen Sweeney filed back in 2009 a compliant objecting to the ban on sports betting in the state of New Jersey.

The ban was part of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1991 and the compliant claimed it was unconstitutional and they have hoped it would be successful as to allow the state to reintroduce sports betting facilities that will allow the state to generate an estimated $56million from taxation on an annual basis.

Their compliant was thrown out by a federal judge on the grounds that the plaintiffs were not within their right to file said compliant as they lacked the necessary proof to demonstrate that the state suffered any harm from the ban.

The judge also stated that the lawsuit essentially "puts the cart before the horse", meaning the state should be given a chance to first legalize sports betting
