Austrian gaming giants Novomatic have filed a plagiarism lawsuit over similarities with many of their slot games titles. The lawsuit in question is against Euro Games Technology, who are a slots and games manufacturer based in Belgium.
The lawsuit, which has also been filed against Euro Game’s German sales partner D-Systems, demands compensation for the discontinuance of the further sale of certain slot games offered by Euro Game.
Gaming technology company Novomatic has alleged that some of the games “systematically and unfairly” use essential elements of its own titles, ‘Ultimate Hot’, ‘Olympus Glory’, ‘Flaming Hot’, ‘5 Dazzling Hot’, ‘Lucky Hot’ and ‘Extremely Hot’.
Novomatic added that similar legal actions are currently being prepared in other countries.
What Is the Hopeful Outcome for Novomatic?
Novomatic has filed this lawsuit in the hope to have Euro Technology Games discontinue the specific games that Novomatic have filed their lawsuit against. Not only that, Novomatic have also stated that they will be seeking compensation for the damages incurred over the plagiarism of their slot games. While this lawsuit has only been filed in Berlin so far, they are currently looking to put forward similar legal actions in other countries that they feel their slot games have been systematically and unfairly copied. With Novomatic locations found in 50 different countries around the world, there could be quite a few more lawsuits to follow on from this Euro Games Technology Berlin lawsuit.
With so many slot games appearing on the market daily, this is definitely a case for other slot developers to pay close attention to as many base their online games on the same themes.
