Specific Games Superstitions

Gambling and superstition go hand in hand for many players and while there is no proof that they work or have any bearing on a player's luck at the table, many players have developed them and while there are different popular gambling superstitions, there are some superstitions that over the years have attached themselves to specific games.

Slots
Play standing - you will have more luck playing standing up than sitting at a slot machine.
Play new slot machines – most slot games players believe that new slot games have better payout percentage than old ones.
Slot is due – most players believe that a slot machine is due to hit eventually and while in theory that is true, there is no guarantee it will happen during your playing session no matter how long you play.
Sequence catching – players believe that by noting down the sequence of winning spins they can crack down the payout pattern. This is bogus as the machines are operated by a random numbers generator.

Craps
Same dice – many players believe that if a die rolls off the table it is bad luck to use it again. A shooter that will opt to use the same fallen die again will shout "same dice" so that players who believe this superstition will not wager that round or bet against the shooter.
No hand passing – players believe it is bad luck to pass the dice from shooter to shooter using their hands. They will place the dice on the table and let the next shooter to pick them up from the table.
Seven – some players believe that it's enough to say the word 'Seven' before rolling the dice to roll a Seven or they will say "Big red" that means Seven without actually saying it.

Roulette
Lucky numbers – people have their lucky numbers that they tend to wager on when playing roulette. Of course no number is luckier than other numbers but player should definitely play those as they add to the fun and excitement of the game.
Trends – some players believe there are trends to the results in roulette that form trends over several spins. This of course if nonsense unless you are playing at an illegal casino where the wheel can be fixed.

Poker
No sex – many poker players believe it is bad luck to have sex before a big poker tournament or a big high stakes cash game.
Death hands – different players have different hands they refer to as Death Hands. These are hands they always lose if they play them. For some it's an Ace and Seven off suit that is tempting to play because of the Ace but is risky as the two cards don't connect and as they are not suited will make hitting a flush a low probability.
