Newsweek Magazine provides an annual ranking of the top 500 most environmentally responsible companies in the U.S. and MGM Resorts International came in at 157 in what has become to be known as the Green Ranking.

The high score is surprising considering casino and hotel resorts have around the clock laundry services and catering services that use up a lot of electricity and water.

In addition there are of course the casinos themselves that use up a lot of electricity to power all the slot machines and keep games like electronic roulette and video poker working 24/7 for 365 days a year.

Yet in spite of its excessive electrical and water consumption MGM Resorts have managed to be the highest ranking casino company in Newsweek’s Green Ranking for a second consecutive year.

MGM Resorts International operates all over the world and offers 16 casino and hotel resorts with 165 restaurants. The company has gone green in recent years and even issued a special report detailing all the efforts it made in reducing its impact on the environment over the past 4 years.

CEO of MGM Resorts International, Jim Murren said that “environmental responsibility is a core company value that is woven into and throughout our culture and business operations. “

MGM Resorts International began operating in the year 2000 after completion of the largest ever merger in casino history. The merger united two large casino companies with the combined value of $6.4 Billion.

Today MGM Resorts International operates some of the world’s most famous casino resorts like the Bellagio, Luxor, Circus Circus, New York New York and MGM Grand, to name but a few.
