The MGM Grand Detroit casino has been fined $350 000 for violating multiple regulations.
The casino is fined for serving alcohol to minors and allowing an employee to pocket more than $700 000. Some of the violations took place about 7 years ago, but the Michigan Gaming Control has announced the sum just now.
"The idea behind moving on these actions and moving on the fines is to modify behavior," the board chairman said. "If it takes six years to get this thing resolved ... are we just playing a game where the regulators have to regulate and the casinos have to be regulated?"
MGM holds 42% of the market share in Detroit and that’s not the first time they are being fined, though the sum is the biggest in their history.
The second biggest fine was $150 000 on the same reasons - letting an employee embezzle $688 000 from the casino.
The smallest fine was for allowing five under-aged customers gamble and for serving them alcohol and counted $12 000.
The gambling revenues at all three Detroit casinos (MGM is the biggest of the three) was up 6.6% in October 2014 compared to the same month a year ago.
For this October, MGM Grand's gambling revenues were up 1.6% compared to last year to $47 million.
