New Annual Report on Global Gaming Market from PwC

PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), the world’s largest professional service company and one of the biggest accountancy firms in the world, has released its annual report on the global e-gaming market.

The report is called ‘Global Gaming Outlook: The casino and online gaming market to 2015’ and in it PwC charts its outlook for the industry in terms of the challenges the industry is facing in terms of legislation, self-regulation and new emerging jurisdictions that are bound to have an effect on the potential growth of the global gaming market.

According to PwC their projections show that across the US, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia and Canada there will be an annual growth of 9.2% that is expected to increase revenues from US$117.6 billion in 2010 to over US$182.8 billion by 2015.

The most dramatic growth is expected in the Asia-Pacific region. PwC estimates that the market will grow by 18.3% and by 2015 will reach a revenue level of US$79.3 billion. This means that the Asia-Pacific region will overtake the US as the biggest online gaming market in the world.

In addition PwC indicates that the majority of legal and regulated online gambling is taking place in Europe, Asia and the Middle East and currently the largest single e-gaming market is in the UK although France has the largest online casino market with total revenues in 2010 of US$3.8 billion, followed by Germany with total revenues in 2010 of US$2 billion.

The reason the UK is leading the overall online gambling market is thanks to its online bingo and online sports betting markets but in terms of online casino activity it is lagging behind France and Germany.

To sum up PwC’s report claims that “the next five years will see rapid and pervasive change in every segment of the casino gaming industry. Now is the time for all participants to plan for this change – and to stake out the right positioning in the new landscape of 2015.”
