Hopes are high for gambling mecca Atlantic City following new statistics which show that the value of shares of Boyd Gaming Corp and Caesars Entertainment Group have risen. These two companies stand for over 60% the city's gambling revenues.

This follows and may be the direct result of the recent legalisation of online gambling in the state of New Jersey. The state's governor Chris Christie made the move to legalise gambling in the hope of increasing state revenue from gamblng, and it seems like it is working.

Caesars Entertainment runs four casinos and Boyd Gaming run the Borgata Hotel and Casino Resort. The shares for both of these companies increased by around 6% in early trade, and things appear to be heading in a positive direction.

Gary Thompson, spokesman for Caesars Entertainment, said in a statement that the company believes online gambling in the state will be beneficial for companies in the area but also enable expansion which can faciliate bringing life back to the market by introducing games to potential new customers.

Most of the other companies which have benefited from this are online gambling companies with the technology in place to launch such services in the US. Bwin.party, 888 Holdings and Zynga Inc all reported similar results.

Despite all of this, chief executive of casino game makers SHFL Entertainment Inc Gavin Isaacs has said that he believes that table games will be affected most and that other games will show more marginal results.
