PokerStars will Attempt to Break the Guinness Record for Largest Online Poker Tournament

PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room, is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary. As part of its festive 10th year providing players from all over the world with an excellent online poker product, the management decided to attempt to break the world record for holding the largest online poker tournament.

The current Guinness World Record™ also belongs to PokerStars that held a $1 buy-in No Limit Holdem tournament in 2009 and set a world record with 149,196 players and the top prize offered was $50,000 and was won by an online poker player from Germany.

Now PokerStars believes they can surpass the 150,000 players mark in their $1 buy-in No Limit Holdem planned for 4th December and set a new Guinness World Record™.

In addition the site is planning to rename their ‘Sunday Million’ tournament by changing it to the 10th Anniversary $10m Sunday Million. This special event will be held on 18 December and guarantees a total prize pool of $10 million and a top prize of $1 million. This means that one of PokerStars poker players will become an instant millionaire.

However, the fun doesn’t stop there as PokerStars are planning on sending 100 of its lucky players on an all-expenses-paid trip to the Bahamas for their annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

The PokerStars brand has recently suffered a small setback when the US Department of Justice (DoJ) has seized its dot.com domains and brought federal indictments against its founders for providing online gambling services to US players in violation with federal legislation that prohibits online gambling in the US.

PokerStars eventually settled matters with the DoJ by refunding funds belonging to US players and agreeing to not accept them to play real money games at their online poker room.
