William Hill continues its expansion and spread towards becoming a true global gaming brand. No longer is William Hill just the top bookmaker in the UK specializing in sports betting and operating hundreds of land-based betting shops throughout the UK and Ireland.
In recent years William Hill has done a lot to cement its place as a true gaming brand offering comprehensive gambling services online and offline and pushing itself towards having a greater presence as an international brand.
It all started in December 2008 when William Hill announced it has left its online casino software supplier Cryptologic and signed a new joint venture deal with Playtech that created William Hill Online and started using Playtech casino and bingo software, together with a new online-focused marketing campaign that in less than three years propelled the William Hill Online to great highest and carved out new European markets for the company.
In addition to developing its gaming platform to incorporate European languages and pushing strongly in regulated European markets such as the Italian market, William Hill has its eye on the US market which is heavily regulated but is showing signs that a relaxation of current online gambling laws may be on the cards in the very near future, if not on a national level, then at least on an intrastate level.
In May 2011 William Hill purchased a US sportsbook that offered services in Nevada and Delaware and now it was announced that the company will be allowed to offer novelty bets, pre-approved by the state, for residents of the state of Nevada pending a license that William Hill CEO Ralph Topping expects the company will receive prior to the 2011 presidential elections.
