Super Pan 9 was invented by Sam Torosian and Fred Wolf and it sometimes goes by the name Lucky Pan 9.
Fred Wolf is a known games inventor who is responsible for such greats as Pai Gow Poker, Pai Gow Jokers, Sweepstakes Blackjack and Fast-action Hold'em. He was the manager of Commerce Casino in the early 1980's and later on decided to rent a third of the Bell Club in California so he can introduce his new Super Pan-9 game to patrons.
His main objective was to try and compete with more established card-game based casinos such as the famous Bicycle Club and his old employer Commerce Casino. Soon enough his two main games Pai Gow Poker and Super Pan 9 have gained much popularity with Californian players and soon spread in popularity all over the world.
Super Pan 9 is played between players and not against the casino. The casino takes a small fee for holding and regulating the game. It is essentially a banking game where one player plays as the 'bank'. Each player is offered to chance to act as Banker.
The objective of the game is reaching a total hand value of 9 or as close to 9 as possible. It is a game played on a poker-style table but the game itself resembles more the game of baccarat.
It uses a standard 52 cards deck with the 7, 8, 9 and 10s removed and are not in play. Face cards count as 0 and an Ace counts as 1.
Each player including the player who acts as the Banker place their bets prior to any cards being dealt.
A dice in a dice-shaker is used that determines where the 'Action' will start. The 'Action' is the order in which a player's hand will be compared to the Banker's hand.
Each player will then be dealt three cards. Players need to add up the value of all three cards and use the last digit of the accumulated sum as your hand value. For example: 4, 8 and 2 will equal 14 so your hand value will be 4.
After that players get the options of sticking with their three card hand (Stand), or get an additional card (Draw), but you are allowed only one additional card.
There are designated boxes on the gambling table where players need to place their cards in order to indicate their chosen move; there is a No-card box for players who wish to Stand, a Card box for players wishing to draw an additional card.
The Banker is not allowed to Draw an additional card if they have a total hand value of 7, 8 or 9. The player is not allowed to Draw an additional card if their hand value is of 6, 7, 8 or 9.
In case the player and the Banker have a tied hand that wager is a Push and no money is exchanged.
It is the Banker's duty to handle all winning wagers of their own money. In cases where the Banker runs out of money before paying for certain won hands their bets will also be Pushed.
The role of Banker will move clockwise around the table and only players who have played the previous hand can receive the role of Banker in the subsequent hand.
